My Story

My studio sits at the center of a working sheep and beef farm, framed by a sprawling country garden. Here, art isn’t separate from life—it’s forged in the daily rhythms of rural living alongside my young family.

In 2009, a serendipitous encounter led me to study under the guidance of Rita Easther, a renowned New Zealand painter celebrated for her distinctive Cubist-influenced style. Rita's approach to painting was transformative for me, as she deconstructed the New Zealand landscape into structured, fragmented geometric shapes. Under her tutelage, I learned to see beyond the surface, understanding how to infuse my work with both structure and emotion. Rita's influence has been pivotal in shaping my artistic journey, inspiring me to explore the interplay of form and color in my own creations.

Today these strong foundations are the backbone of my practice 17 years on from that first exhibition an my work delves into the emotional perception of landscapes, going beyond mere visual representation. My approach is akin to unraveling a garment to reveal its construction, using Cubism to interweave layers influenced by geographical shifts, seasonal changes, and raw emotions. Her work captures the essence of storytelling, showcasing themes of the New Zealand landscape, native birds, and Cubism with a unique and insightful perspective.

My cubism practice deeply reflects the vibrant essence of the natural world, particularly the life of the farm and the beauty of changing seasons. Each piece serves as a dialogue between the environment and my inner landscape, utilizing bold colors and geometric forms to convey complex emotions. My studio practice encompasses acrylic painting, meticulously detailed pencil work, and innovative resin pieces, each pushing the boundaries of traditional painting. Light plays a pivotal role in my work, creating dynamic contrasts that enhance depth and movement, while the versatility of acrylics allows for rich textures and vivid hues. This continual connection to nature not only fuels my creative process but also shapes my artistic voice, inviting viewers to experience the extraordinary within the ordinary.

My work is held in collections throughout New Zealand and overseas.
